What a week it's been! I had a chance to catch the Pacers vs. Spurs game a few nights ago. While I don’t like the fact that my Pacers lost, it was awesome seeing Becky Hammon on the bench in her current role as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs. I got to catch up with her before the game, and was excited to hear about how much she’s enjoying being a part of their coaching staff. Who better to represent the W and to break down barriers than the one and only All-Star, Becky Hammon???? Congrats to Coach Pop too! 1,000 win… so amazing!!
As you know from my last blog, I had just returned from spending some time in India. It was such an amazing experience and one that I will forever be grateful for. Thank you Jr. NBA, NBA India and the Reliance Foundation for the opportunity.
Seton Girls Basketball Team in Richmond, IN
Upon returning, I jumped right into workouts, CTSF meetings, and preparing for the upcoming two weekends. One of the highlights of my week was being thrown into a one-on-one basketball game challenge vs. President Barack Obama. Eddie White (Pacers) is one of those people that keeps you on your toes! I thought it was too funny that he threw that into his question during Obama's visit to Indianapolis. Richmond Girls Basketball Team
Last Friday I drove to Richmond, Indiana to speak to two local high school teams at their Kiwana’s club meetings. I had a great time visiting with them. I loved the question and answer time to talk about my Tennessee days, post WNBA days, and just what it takes to get to the professional level. It’s a lot of sacrifice, determination and practice, but DEFINITELY worth it!! http://usatodayhss.com/2015/indiana-fever-star-inspires-local-teams
Hanging w/ my brother Kenyon and my lil nephew, Jayce #CrusadersLife
Over the weekend I got to watch my little nephew, Jayce, and his Crusaders team all the way from St. Louis right here in Naptown. While they didn’t win the tournament, the Crusaders took home second place, and Jayce was sidelined with a gash in his knee from hustling and sliding into the bleachers. I don’t know where he got that from…. ; )
All-Star Weekend is coming up, and I’ll be here, there and EVERYWHERE doing what I love most- playing ball and meeting new people. This weekend I’ll be participating in the 4th Annual NBA Cares Special Olympics Unified Sports Basketball Game ( http://www.nba.com/cares/unifiedgame2015.html ), the Shooting Stars Competition ( http://www.wnba.com/news/four_wnba_stars__participate_2015_02_05.html ) and some other events around the cities. I love going to All-Star weekend as an ambassador for the WNBA and to be able to be engaged in all of the activities surrounding the weekend.
So, all in all it’s been a great weekend and I’m looking forward to this upcoming one in NY. Stay tuned to the events, and I’ll check in from here and there. If you’re not following me on twitter and Instagram, now is the time to do it! You can find me at @catchin24 on both. You don’t want to miss the action : )
