Weekend’s up and today marks the second day of FEBRUARY!!! I know every time I write I talk about time and how fast it’s moving, but… time is a FLYIN ; ) My fiancée and I just spent an amazing weekend in Florida for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes President’s Day Weekend.
Fellowship of Christian Athletes with our new friends : )
Talk about an amazing time of fellowship, friendship and a lot of love. It was such a blessing! I had an opportunity to share my testimony with the group and stayed in line with their theme “Rise Up.” (Joshua 1:9) God continues to guide my paths, and my prayer is that I continue to hear His voice and follow Him always!
The past two weeks have been a whirlwind full of so many great events and a possible peek into what my future holds.
Spencer, Jalen and I with our National Civil Rights Museum Sports Legacy Awards
It started with being the FIRST FEMALE RECIPIENT of the National Civil Rights Museum Sports Legacy Award. What an incredible & humbling honor!!! Never in my wildest dreams could I imagine being a part of the legacy that Dr. King has built for us all, but here I am- a part of the movement that he started. Plus sharing the weekend with NBA Legends Spencer Haywood and Jalen Rose was the icing on the cake. Dr King's Legacy has impacted my life in so many ways and from the time I was young, I've always vowed that if given an opportunity, I would reach back and mentor, teach, lead & encourage our future generations of leaders, teachers & stars.
Creating the Catch the Stars Foundation allows me the opportunity to reach our youth, teach them about having goals and help them reach them. Isn’t that one of the things that Dr. King taught us? I’m humbled and truly honor to not only be a recipient, but to be the first woman in the books. God is good!!
My first meeting at the office : )
Ive spent the past two weeks in New York City interning with the NBA/WNBA offices and learning about the league from the inside. I went from department to department meeting with everyone about their different roles and responsibilities. I tell you what- I have a serious appreciation for people who work a 9a – 5p job. Shoot!! I was super tired the first day on the job LOL. But, I had a blast being up in the offices and being able to learn. While I don’t know where this leads me after my retirement, it was a good look into what could possibly be in my future.
Meet the 2016 USAB Finalists
Well, the roster of the Olympic hopefuls was announced last week!! I’m so thankful to be on the list again and looking forward to competing with some amazing young ladies for a spot on the team. I love the mixture of young and seasoned players : ) With this possibly being my last Olympic experience I look back and wonder where time has gone. This marks my 20th year of being a part of the USA Basketball family. I started in 1996 and here we are. When it comes to USAB the thing that I always want to be remembered for is giving the team everything that they needed. I started with providing open eyes, an open heart, tenaciousness and a willingness to get dirty on the defensive end. What I am now is all of that plus a leader. Willing to do whatever it takes to help this team succeed. Starting in high school, through college and now as a professional, I’ve always taken representing my country to heart. You see, not many people get to do that in their life so it’s truly an honor to have been able to carry that torch for 20 years. So, as I roll into my final try out, the shine is still there. I’m just as excited now as I was the first time I got invited to camp. My heart still has the same quick beats just thinking about it… I’m ready!! Red, white and blue ALL DAY!!!
Off to prepare for the upcoming events! This will be the best year yet!! Talk soon. Best wishes and God Bless!
